Introduced in August 1989, this 500 Vietnamese dong banknote measures 130 mm x 65 mm. Its front side features former Prime Minister Ho Chi Minh, a five-pointed star pattern, and the national emblem of Vietnam. The backside depicts a scene at a dock in Hai Phong Port: a fleet of docked ships being unloaded by cranes and trucks. The note does not have a security thread. However, it has a flower pattern watermark. The note was eventually withdrawn in December 2003.
